With Professor Dr.Hartmut Berghoff, Directorof the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 06.30 pm at the Embassy of Germany (4645ReservoirRoadNW,WashingtonDC20007).
Prof. Dr. Hartmut Berghoff has been Director of the German Historical Institute in Washington during some of the most consequential events of the twenty-first century, including the 2008 financial crisis, the election of Barack Obama, and the increasing polarization of American politics. As this lecture at the German Embassy marks the end of his time in Washington, Professor Berghoff will take stock of this fractious period in American history from his perspective as a German economic historian and contemporary witness. He will also look forward toward the continued challenges facing American society and its economy.
Prof. Dr. Berghoff has been Director of the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC, since April 2008. In October 2015 he will become the new Director of the Institute of Economic and Social History at the University of Göttingen in Germany. Previously he has worked at universities in Bielefeld, Tübingen, and Berlin (HU), as well as at the Harvard Business School and the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, Paris. He was also a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study (Wissenschaftskolleg) in Berlin. Prof. Berghoff has published or edited twenty books and received several prestigious academic awards.
