Data Protection

The Max Weber Stiftung (MWS) [Max Weber Foundation] takes the protection of personal data seriously. Please inform yourself below about data protection on our website.

This Data Privacy Statement relates to the domain www.maxweberstiftung.de.

Collection and Storage of Data

Personal Data

Personal data is information that can be used to find out your identity. This includes information such as your name, address, postal address, telephone number and email address, but also your computer's IP address when you access our websites. Information not linked to your identity (e.g. the number of users of the site) is not included therein.

Personal data is collected on our websites, and stored, only to the extent technically necessary.

Dispatch of the magazine upon request

Your name, address and email address are stored for the period of the subscription, for the dispatch of the magazine upon request. We view the requirement of the magazine as a contractual agreement. The requested data is required to fulfil the contract; the email address is necessary for the handling of a double-opt-in procedure.

We store your data for the period that you procure the magazine. We will delete your data if you terminate the subscription or request the deletion of your data. It is no longer possible to deliver the magazine following a deletion of the data or an objection to the processing or the restriction of the processing.

Web Analytics

The web hoster of the MWS has set up AWstats. However, the MWS does not use a system for web analytics.

Storage of the IP Address, Use of JavaScript and Cookies

IP address

To access our websites, you will need to register your IP address. An IP address is a unique, globally valid identifier of your computer. As a private user, you will normally not use a non-changing IP address, as your provider will allocate a temporary IP address to you. Nevertheless, it is, in principle, possible to uniquely allocate user data via this attribute. Our web servers store the access time, the (full) IP address, the path or website accessed and the browser agent to enable attacks on our website to be analysed and, if possible, averted. The storage period is one month. Data that we allocate to an attack is stored by us as long as necessary.

Cookies

We use session cookies (small text files that contain visit information and are temporarily stored on your hard drive). These become invalid when the session ends. They are necessary for the unrestricted technical functionality of the website.

Javascript

Javascript enables the scope of the functionality of a website to be extended, and personal data to be collected. We do not use Javascripts to collect personal data.

Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting is a technique where an attempt is made to identify the user by evaluating technical data (e.g. software versions installed, fonts, etc.). We do not conduct fingerprinting on our website.

Usage with a Low Level of Data, Opting Out of the Use of Cookies and Javascript

We merely use session cookies. If you wish to opt out of the use of cookies or other techniques, we advise that you request and apply the relevant information offered by the browser maker regarding the disabling of Javascript and the rejection of cookies (e.g. in the Help menu of your Internet browser or on the corresponding website), or that you contact the browser supplier for further help and instructions.

Furthermore, you can at any time personally delete cookies already placed by selecting the corresponding menu item in your Internet Browser or deleting the cookies in the directory intended for this on your hard drive.

Integration of Third-party Services and Content

Content from third parties and commissioned data processors, e.g. videos, map material, RSS feeds, social media messages, images or graphics from other websites, may be integrated into this online platform (these service providers are contractually bound by the Max Weber Stiftung and are, in respect of any personal data that they receive in this connection, only permitted to use this data for the intended purpose). This invariably requires that the providers of this content are aware of the users' IP address, as they would otherwise be unable to send the content to the respective user's browser. Therefore, the IP address is essential for showing this content. We endeavour to use such content only from providers that use the IP address merely for delivering their respective content. However, we have no influence over whether such third-party providers store the IP address, e.g. for statistical purposes. Insofar as we are aware of such storage, we shall provide the users with information thereon. At present, we use the following services: Twitter, Vimeo, Googleapis, Here, fonts.com.

When the user contacts us by email, the user's details will be stored for the purpose of processing the enquiry and in case of follow-up questions.

Collection of Data in the Course of an Invitation for Tenders

You will not be able to submit any application details on our website. For information on the separate provisions concerning the protection of data collected in the course of an invitation for tenders, please refer to the texts of the respective announcements.

Transmission of Data

Your personal data will be transmitted to state institutions and public authorities only in cases where this is necessary according to the law or for criminal prosecution purposes owing to attacks on our network infrastructure. Your personal data will not be passed on to third parties for purposes other than those described above.

Your Rights Right to Disclosure

You have the right to request at any time information on your data stored, the origin and recipients of your data and the purpose for which your data is being stored. Information on the data stored is provided by the data protection officer of the Max Weber Stiftung.

Correction

You have the right to have incorrect personal data corrected. If the MWS has doubts about the accuracy of such correction, it will be entitled to refrain from carrying out the correction until the facts of the matter have been cleared up.

Erasure

You have the right to have personal data erased. The MWS will not erase the data if it is legally obliged to store the data. If the MWS has doubts about the legitimacy of an erasure instruction, it will be entitled to refrain from carrying out the erasure until the facts of the matter have been cleared up.

Right to Restriction of the Processing

You have the right to have the processing restricted in cases where you call into question the accuracy of the data (until the issue has been cleared up), the processing is unlawful, you still need the data for the assertion of legal claims (after the purpose for which the data was being processed has ceased to exist), or you opt out in accordance with Article 21 GDPR. This will not apply if the MWS's reasons for the processing are compelling and worthy of protection.

Right to Data Portability

You have the right to receive in machine-readable format your data stored with us. As formats, we offer the txt format (UTF-8 or ANSI) and pdf.

Revocation of Consent

You have the right to revoke your consent at any time. Revocation will be effected in the same way as the consent or by sending an email to the data protection officer (see below), explaining which consent you are withdrawing. Any data processing undertaken prior to the revocation of consent will remain lawful.
